Taking the Leap

I am on countdown. A month ago, I put in my resignation as the Assistant Director of Library Services. The reasons for doing so were numerous, including an hour commute and lack of family time, but some of my reasoning stemmed from feeling. The feeling that I was being sucked into a routine of dull, a life of blahness.  I was too tired to pursue all of those things that make life worth living to me. Creativity? Gone. Energy? Gone. It was the same wake, work, eat, sleep every. single. day. Millions of people are okay with this lifestyle (or maybe they are not but they are too scared to change it) but I am not. I want to be fearless and that meant taking a deep breath and resigning. I am losing my salary and family health insurance. I may have irrevocably hurt my career. I am losing camaraderie with amazing colleagues. And I am okay with that. Because I am gaining freedom. I am seeking out creativity. I am finding myself. No amount of money can compensate for that. Am I scared? Do I wonder at least three times a day if I have made the right decision?
Absolutely. That's why I read this article (and others like it) when I start to feel a bit worried and then I know   my family and I will be fine.

Avoid Eating the Mini Mart Hotdog!

We are traveling to Michigan next week and I have been trying to think of healthy and easily transported snacks to take with us. While we all love a little candy and chips now and then, I do not want to be stuck in a car with two teens, a 10 year old boy, and a semi-aggressive 4 year old on sugar highs. So I have come up with a list of tasty and healthy fare!

Homemade Energy Bars - I am a huge fan of Larabar and these remind me of that delish treat!

Cut-up carrots and celery with travel sized peanut butter

Fresh Fruit

Ziploc bags of cereal, like Multigrain Cheerios or Muesli

Hummus and veggies and/or pita

Healthy Blueberry Muffins - Not so healthy when you eat three, but I am working on that.

Popcorn - I love Popcorn, Indiana brand!

Organic/low sugar Fruit Snacks

Nuts/Seeds

Pretzels

Cheese Sticks

What are some of your favorite travel foods??

Introducing...

Hi.
Welcome to my little corner of existence. My name is Trisha.
Some people call me Chee.
I have decided to start this blogging venture for a few reasons.
Reason #1 - I need to write. I could not write and the world will keep on turning. But I NEED to write. Writing helps me understand who I am and who you are and why we do the things we do. It helps me relate and feel and be. Blogging = Writing. Nuf said.
Reason #2 - I am a creative individual in a rural area. My outlets for creativity are very limited and an audience to share creative pursuits with is arguably non-existent. You can only brag about your one of a kind necklace made from pantyhose and gumballs so many times before your kids quit coming home. So now (hopefully) you are my audience. I will captivate you. I promise.
Reason #3 - I LOVE LOVE LOVE thrift shops. Like when I heard that Goodwill was raising their prices once again and adopting a barcode (think Wal-mart) system of check out, I got out my Sharpies and made signs that read "I am gonna burn this mother down" and "Where is the Good in Goodwill?" I am still looking for people to protest with me. Any takers? Good news for the independent thrift stores though! I will be frequenting your establishment even more now. Aren't you LUCKY?

I am excited about blogging! I hope you find something useful or funny or creative here at ChickenPete. Thank you for taking a moment to read.
What's that? Oh. What is ChickenPete, you ask?

When my youngest daughter was two, she would block you from entering a room until you guessed her secret word.
"Apple?"   "No."
"Supercalifrag...fuggehit?"   "No."
"Move?"  "No."
"Please?"  "No."
Twenty minutes later......
"Poop?" Giggle.  "No."
"What is it honey? Momma really needs to get the burning pizza from the oven. Please just tell me and I will give you a cookie."
"Chickenpete."
"Chickenpete? Huh? What's that?"
"Chickenpete."
Okay then.
To this day, that is her secret word and I have absolutely no idea what it means. Has a nice ring to it though :)

Welcome to ChickenPete.
